Name: Chief Surgeon Major Julian Haasan

Age: 50

Faceclaim: Naveen Andrews

Pronouns: He / him

About:

Julian Haasan was born in Crabapple, Maine, the year tragedy struck the Earth in the form of a massive asteroid. He was raised during the tumultuous time period of rebuilding. His family ended up moving to a settlement high up in the White Mountains. It was crowded and tenuous existence, dependent on the continued cooperation of both private citizens, and the military presence in the area. With the respect he had gained for the US military, Julian enlisted as soon as he was old enough.

He studied hard, and was eager to become a medical doctor through the military's training programs. He specialized in field medicine at first, but also studied the effects of pollution and smog on soldiers' health. He made special recommendations for furthering research into better gas masks. He earned his medical degree at the age of thirty, and continued to study new surgical procedures. Additionally, he also studied the burgeoning science of electronic prosthetics. Though this technology was in it's infancy, Julian made some progress in helping discover better ways to attach, maintain, and work with prosthetic limbs.

As the state of the world began to settle down, the US military continued to aid citizens, attempt to protect bio-domes and other settlements, and keep the peace. However, some of the priorities of the military were misaligned. Their use of a force was sometimes too frequent, and as time went on, it seemed like more inexperienced, eager recruits were being sent in dangerous situations with less and less of a reason to be there. By the time Julian was promoted to Captain and Chief Surgeon of his base in 1933, he had become disillusioned with the military. The number of personnel was decreasing, and the military was struggling to stay relevant. As the budget decreased for combat personnel, it also decreased for medical research.

For seven more years, he worked around various air bases, primarily located around the Northeastern US. As more independent air bases arose, and raiders increased, Julian became more aware of the political climate that caused these things to occur. He found himself agreeing more and more with some of the private air forces rather than the institution he worked for.

In 1940, he deserted. Julian had planned his exit carefully. He took cargo transport to New York City late in the night, and hid out until he could find a private air force that would discreetly hire a deserter to work at their base. A month later, Julian left to work with the Flyin' Lions. He found himself appreciating the community there far more than the one back with the US military. Though he found Col. Molyneux to be a little too altruistic for his tastes sometimes, he preferred that attitude over the military's. Four years into his time there, he was promoted to Major, and made Chief Surgeon of the base.

Julian has a sharp wit, and doesn't hesitate to speak his mind. He's intelligent, and can sometimes be condescending. He makes an effort not to get too attached to people, and often puts up metaphorical walls to prevent anyone from getting too emotionally close to him. Close friends are an exception to this, and it takes a long time to get to know him. He's cynical, and trusts few people. He can be standoffish, and grumpy at times. He also uses his own sense of humor to conceal his self-loathing. Julian can be a protective person over people he ends up caring about, and can sometimes take on a paternal role. He has a rage that dwells just below the surface, and can be easy to bring out when his patience is tested.

Name: Jack Plumridge

Age: 19

Faceclaim: --

Pronouns: They / them

About:

Jack stands at 5'0", and is thin as a rail, and bony. They have a narrow face, and a small, pointed chin. They have thin lips, and sharp brows. Their most striking feature is their large, pointed, upturned nose. They have mousy brown, unruly straight hair that sticks out in all directions around their head. Their skin is pale, and they often have scattered bruises from picking fights with other raiders. They can often be seen wearing their too-big flight suit with the top half tied around their waist, combat boots, and a ratty tank top.

Jack grew up in the cozy confines of a beautiful, well-kept bio-dome. Their home was spacious, and they never wanted for much while growing up. Their parents were inattentive, and often busy with running their oil business rather than raising their child. As a kid, Jack often acted out due to frustration with their lack of connections to other people. They didn't fit in well with the other kids at school, and frequently came home to find that their parents weren't around, often without having told them how late they would be out, or what they were doing.

One of the few ways Jack could spend time with their Dad was by learning to fly. As a young teen, Jack was old enough to sit in the co-pilot's seat with him. Their Dad had a history of flying for the US military, though had long since retired. He still flew in air shows, and pulled stunts. Jack was eager to learn about flying, and flew with his Dad every single chance they got. Eventually, their Dad let them start learning to fly, despite the fact that they were too young to legally be piloting an aircraft. Jack's Dad payed whoever worked at the private air base to look the other way, and Jack took to the air like a fish to water. Every chance they got to fly was a chance to both feel the thrilled of hurtling through the air, and also to spend precious time with the person who neglected to raise them.

As they got older, they began to only derive joy from causing trouble, skipping school, and flying planes. When they turned seventeen, and their parents said that they needed to start thinking about a higher education so that they could join the oil business, Jack snapped. They didn't know anything about the inner workings of a large corporation, and they didn't care to learn. It sounded boring, rigid, and oppressive. Their parents insisted that they couldn't chase childish things forever, and needed to grow up, without ever having given Jack a blueprint of how to such a thing.

So, Jack ran away. They hitched a ride to the Big City, and then wormed their way into joining a band of raiders. They wanted to stick it to all of the people that ignored them when they were a child, and get back everyone who was in any way similar to their parents, and the other wealthy citizens like them. With Jack's prior flying knowledge, they were a bit of a wunderkind on the air base. They were quick to pick up combat tactics, new strategies, and more complicated flight patterns. For two years, they've been sticking with the same band of raiders, and are always eager to fly more missions.

Jack is bratty, entitled, and rude. They're highly emotional, volatile, and angry. They're confrontational, and violent. They're attention-seeking, but refuse to admit that they would ever want the approval of any authority figure, despite having a commander. They have a laser-focus on taking down rich people, corporations, and anyone aligned with those groups, even if it's not for altruistic reasons. They're a brutal punk who isn't afraid to make reckless decisions. Jack is deeply afraid of growing up, and can't stand the idea of having to settle down behind a desk, or be stuck inside of a building for work. Beneath their tough, prickly exterior, Jack is still a kid at heart. They're vulnerable to homesickness, anxiety, and fear of their unknown future.
